On this exclusive tour, curator André Afonso introduces the newly refurbished Silver Gallery, showcasing some of the finest examples of 18th- and 19th-century French silverware, greatly admired by Calouste Gulbenkian. Created by the leading Parisian silversmiths for European monarchs and aristocrats, these masterpieces reflect the luxury and significance of formal dining ceremonies as expressions of power and prestige at the courts of the period.

In the second part of the tour, we will explore a selection of small gold luxury objects – including snuff boxes, sealing wax cases, and nécessaires – crafted in major European centers during the 18th century. Recently returned to display at the Gulbenkian Museum, these exquisite pieces reveal the exceptional craftsmanship of the goldsmiths, as well as the social customs and codes of Europe’s elites.
