The Cultural Impacts of the Great War in Portugal

Comissionedy by: Pedro Oliveira, Carlos Silveira, Ana Vasconcelos

Integrated into a set of initiatives commemorating the centenary of World War I, this exhibition seeks to convey the impact of the Great War on Portuguese society and culture whether due to the actual conflict itself or in the years following and taking as its reference framework the chronological period between 1914 and 1935. Organised into six thematic groups, the exhibition displays a diverse range of works and hitherto unpublished documents that evoke the events and the parallel changes and social and cultural trends of this period that either trace their origins to or were accentuated by the outbreak of the Great War.
