Artists from different parts of the world come together in Portugal to share their journeys and encounters through music.

Born out of a co-creation process that unfolded along the railway line between Lisbon and Fundão in 2025, RESSOA – Ecos do Mundo is a concert that celebrates intercultural dialogue, bringing together sounds, memories and stories of migration.

First presented at Santa Apolónia Station in Lisbon, and later travelling through Entroncamento and Fundão, the performance now returns to Lisbon to be presented at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

The RESSOA project is promoted by SOMA Cultura and sponsored by the PARTIS & Art for Change initiative.

About the project

RESSOA is a collaborative, multidisciplinary artistic project centred on music and its relationship with oral narratives. In 2025, it provided migrant artists living in Portugal who were isolated or excluded and in a precarious situation with training and opportunities. The project also aimed to facilitate meetings between migrant and Portuguese artists, music students and young people from a variety of cultural backgrounds. The train is both the symbol and the means of transport for RESSOA. In light of the growing migrant population and the resulting rise in xenophobia in Portugal, the train is a vessel for public transport, raising awareness of the project, and a metaphor for the migratory experiences of the participants.
