Out of the Romantic Nationalism of the late 19th century through to the various strands in the Modernism of the first half of the 20th century, there emerged a new genre of Portuguese chamber song, combining cosmopolitan influences and traditional national roots. Works by Viana da Mota, Francisco de Lacerda, Fernando Lopes Graça, Filipe de Sousa and Joly Braga Santos.
