by Abdallah Abozekry, Ismail Altunbas, João Barradas and Loris Lari

João Barradas and Abdallah Abozekry shall speak about the bridge between Portuguese music and Arabic music: their relations with tempo, harmony, the different pitches and their specific scales. Improvisation in the traditional music of their respective two countries, Portugal and Egypt, also comes under discussion within the framework of its fundamental input into the formation of the group Cairo Jazz Station.

Ismail Altunbas will speak about the technique of Master Misirli Ahmet, of the differences in the percussion aesthetics in Turkey and the rest of the Arab world.

Loris Lari shall delve into the history of the double bass as an integral instrument of any orchestra, its evolution as a soloist instrument in the 20th century through to its introduction into contemporary music and jazz.

The musicians are also on hand to respond to questions from the public and to provide demonstrations relating to the aforementioned themes.
