Gulbenkian Orchestra
In 1962, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation decided to establish a permanent orchestral ensemble. Originally with only twelve musicians (strings and continuo) it was named “Orquestra de Câmara Gulbenkian”. This collective was successively enlarged and today the “Orquestra Gulbenkian” (the name it has adopted since 1971) has a permanent body of sixty instrumentalists, a number that can be expanded depending on the repertoire.
This structure allows the Gulbenkian Orchestra to interpret works from the Baroque and Classical periods, a significant part of 19th century orchestral literature and much of the music of the 20th century, including works belonging to the current repertoire of the traditional symphonic orchestras. In each season, the orchestra performs on a regular series of concerts at the Gulbenkian Grand Auditorium in Lisbon, where it has had the opportunity of working together with some of leading names of the world of music (conductors and soloists). It has also performed on numerous locations all over Portugal, in an effort to decentralize music and culture.
The orchestra has been constantly expanding its activities in the international level, performing in Europe, Asia Africa, and the Americas. In the recording field, Orquestra Gulbenkian is associated to labels as Philips, Deutsche Grammophon, Hyperion, Teldec, Erato, Adès, Nimbus, Lyrinx, Naïve and Pentatone, among others, and this activity was recognized with several international prizes.

Luca Guglielmi

Luca Guglielmi (Turim, Itália, 1977) é maestro, compositor, musicólogo e intérprete solista de cravo, órgão, clavicórdio e pianoforte. É reconhecido pelas suas abordagens historicamente informadas da música de diferentes períodos, estendendo-se o seu repertório de Gesualdo a Stravinsky. Está profundamente empenhado no estudo e na aplicação da fenomenologia da música. Guglielmi estreou-se com a Filarmónica Real de Estocolmo em 2019 e no Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona em 2023. Entre os seus mentores incluem-se Jordi Savall, com quem colabora desde 1998, e Sir Simon Rattle, que o convidou para seu assistente na produção de Don Giovanni, de Mozart, no Festival d’Aix-en-Provence de 2025. Em Itália, dirigiu várias orquestras, incluindo a Orchestra Regionale Toscana, a Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, a Filarmónica de Turim, a Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese, a Orchestra Milano Classica, o Coro da RAI de Turim e a Cappella Musicale di Santa Maria dei Servi, em Bolonha. Recentemente, assistiu Jordi Savall em La Clemenza di Tito, para o Festival Mozart de Salzburgo e em projetos orquestrais com Le Concert des Nations, interpretando um repertório que incluiu as nove Sinfonias e a Missa Solemnis de Beethoven, a 8.ª e a 9.ª Sinfonias de Schubert, a Sinfonia Italiana e Sonho de uma Noite de Verão de Mendelssohn. Em paralelo com a carreira de direção, Guglielmi tem-se apresentado como cravista e organista, músico de câmara e diretor coral desde 1993. Recebeu uma “Menção Honrosa” no 12.º Concurso Internacional de Órgão de Bruges e estudou com Ton Koopman, Patrizia Marisaldi, Vittorio Bonotto, Alessandro Ruo Rui e Sergio Pasteris. Colaborou com notáveis solistas como Cecilia Bartoli, Sara Mingardo, Barbara Bonney, Philippe Jaroussky, Giuliano Carmignola, Paolo Pandolfo, Ottavio Dantone, Gabriele Cassone, Paul O'Dette e Katia e Marielle Labèque. Trabalhou também com Il Giardino Armonico, Ricercar Consort, Ensemble La Fenice, The Rare Fruits Council, Freiburger Barockorchester e Sinfónica Nacional da RAI. Luca Guglielmi recebeu dois Diapason d’or (Variações Goldberg de Bach e Sonate da gravecembalo de Pasquini) e foi “Editor's Choice” da revista Gramophone (Bach in Montecassino). A sua extensa discografia inclui mais de vinte gravações a solo, de Frescobaldi a Mozart, para as etiquetas Decca, Teldec, Avi, Accent, cpo, Vivat, Hänssler Classics, Stradivarius, e Elegia. Professor apaixonado e entusiasta, lecionou em cursos de música antiga em Pamparato, Barbaste e Urbino, baseando o seu ensino inteiramente em tratados antigos e fontes históricas. Desde 2014, é professor de cravo, pianoforte e música de câmara na Escola Superior de Música da Catalunha, em Barcelona.

The precociousness of violinist Clara-Jumi Kang is revealing of her uncommon gifts: she made her concert debut with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra at the age of five, won a scholarship to study at the Juilliard School at seven, began receiving mentorship from Daniel Barenboim at eleven and, a year later, was already performing with the conductor in Chicago. Her exceptional talent has continued to prove itself in projects such as the recording of Beethoven’s Violin Sonatas, made in 2021 with pianist Sunwook Kim.
