Performance integrated in the multidisciplinary installation co-created under the project 1952 | Archive in Motion: between the Neighborhood and the Museum.

Between January and May 2025, a group of students of various ages and backgrounds from the Qualifica Centre of the Baixa da Banheira/Vale da Amoreira School Group took part in an artistic creation process centred on movement, critical thinking, and visual culture. Using body and movement, words and images, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation becomes a place for listening, collective creation, intergenerational dialogue and imagining the future.

Arquivo em Movimento comprises many voices, memories, bodies, territories and experiences. It embodies the intersection between neighbourhood and museum, and of the silence of the archive and the vibrant voices of those who live and resist within it. The project invites us to fill institutional places with alternative narratives, emotions and perspectives, where art becomes a space for resistance and social interaction.

Projeto 1952 | Arquivo em Movimento is promoted by the Oprimido de Lisboa Theatre Company and is sponsored by the PARTIS & Art for Change initiative.

About the project

Projeto 1952 | Arquivo em Movimento is based on a reflection on the visual archive of Portuguese colonialism at the National Museum of Natural History and Science, and classified as “sensitive” heritage. The project aims to co-create a multidisciplinary performance with a focus on dance and movement. The performance's creative process encompasses somatic education, improvisation, choreographic composition, and direct work with photographs. It is inspired by the “untold” stories of these bodies enclosed in the archive, and their emotional and critical interpretation.

This project is sponsored by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the 'la Caixa' Foundation as part of the 3rd edition of the PARTIS & Art for Change programme.
