After the effusive praise Arcadi Volodos received for his recordings of Mompou and Brahms, the brilliant Russian pianist returned in 2019 to Schubert’s work to record an album that led Der Standard to state that “when Arcadi Volodos plays Schubert, time is suspended”. In this return to Gulbenkian Música, Volodos offers us the sublime Gasteiner Sonata (D. 850) by Schubert, in dialogue with Schumann’s Kinderszenen. Volodos performs from a remarkable position that is only available to the most enlightened: touching each of these works as if they were something entirely new.
