Atos

A programme aimed at fostering civic and artistic participation within communities and expanding the reach and impact of democratic cultural initiatives.

Em 2023, o Teatro Nacional D. Maria II e a Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian criaram o ATOS, um programa que visa produzir conhecimento sobre práticas culturais e artísticas participativas, potenciar a participação cívica e artística das comunidades, ampliar o alcance e impacto das iniciativas democráticas de cultura, promover políticas culturais sustentáveis e estabelecer outras centralidades culturais e artísticas.

In collaboration with municipal teams and around a dozen invited artistic organisations, ATOS has been traveling across the country with the aim of stimulating participatory artistic practices and encouraging reflection on cultural democracy through:

• Short and medium-term participatory artistic projects;
• Forums for reflection on the role of participation in cultural democracy and in the artistic practices of each territory, involving municipal entities, policy makers, cultural professionals, and local communities;
• Training programs for the development and implementation of participatory artistic projects;
• A mentorship and capacity-building program to support the creation and implementation of participatory cultural projects led by local cultural agents;
• A conference on cultural democracy and civic and artistic participation.

ATOS – art, participation and territory and the video-essay Alcanço bring together insights and experiences gathered during the programme’s first year of implementation, in close connection with local territories and communities.
