Our Work
Since its establishment in 1956, the UK Branch of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation has supported organisations in the UK and beyond through art, charity, science and education. We collaborate with colleagues and partners across borders to exchange knowledge, scale what works internationally and support projects that align with the Foundation’s goals.
The Foundation’s strategy is guided by the twin pillars of equity and sustainability. There are currently seven multi-year grant-making programmes run out of Head Office: Access to Care, Access to Culture, Access to Education, Climate and Biodiversity, Democracy and Civil Society, Armenian Communities, and Partnerships with Africa.
In recent years, the UK Branch has been contributing to the Foundation’s Access to Culture and Climate and Biodiversity programmes, which support work in the UK, Portugal and beyond to deliver change. Our work in 2026 will continue to support work in the arts and climate sectors, with a particular focus on transnational exchange and international connections.
