Richard Wagner
The highest calibre of the Romantic period is Richard Wagner’s opera Tristan und Isolde. A sweeping story in which love and death appear intertwined and offer an unbridled dramatic beauty as a backdrop to the music created by the German composer. In this Metropolitan Opera broadcast, the magnetic soprano Lise Davidsen is Princess Isolde, opposite Michael Spyres in the role of Tristan. The director is Yuval Sharon, whom The New York Times considers “the most visionary opera director of his generation”.
