Umberto Giordano
André Chénier was a French poet sentenced to death and executed during the French Revolution. His story interested the Italian composer Umberto Giordano, who was inspired to compose an opera named after the poet, exploring Chénier’s tragic story in the complex historical and political context of that period. After achieving tremendous success with another work by Giordano, Fedora, tenor Piotr Beczała and soprano Sonya Yoncheva return to the magnificent stage of the Metropolitan Opera under the direction of Daniele Rustioni.
