Santa Gertrudes Park – Valentim José Correia project

Garden design for the palace of Santa Gertrudes 1864, signed by the architect António Correia, which proposes a language linked to a classicist ideology. The legend says “French Garden”. Beyond this garden, contained and well delimited, is the beginning of a freer, broader drawing, subtitled English Garden. This proposal was never developed, as José Maria Eugénio de Almeida wrote in a note about the drawing, but it was from this that the future changes were sketched out [i].
