We’re Hiring: Communications Manager (Maternity Cover)

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation UK Branch is seeking a communications professional to join its grant-making team based in London.
25 jul 2024

The Communications Manager will work with colleagues in the UK and Portugal to strategise and deliver impactful communications and partnership activities, with a focus on our international ‘Climate and Ocean’ and ‘Access to Culture’ grant-making programmes.

What you’ll work on:

In this role you will lead and contribute to a variety of projects related to the arts, environment and sustainable development. You will report into the Director of Sustainability, based in London, working closely with our diverse, friendly team in the UK and with colleagues in our Head Office in Portugal.

This is an exciting time to join us. In 2023 we embarked on the Foundation’s new strategy, focused on Sustainability and Equity. 2024-2025 will be critical years to communicate progress on these strategies and we will be seeking moments to disseminate insights and lessons from our grant-making and our partners’ work via the media, at major international events and through the Foundation’s owned channels.

The UK Branch works with civil society organisations in the UK and beyond to deliver on this strategy, aiming to increase public engagement with ocean and climate action and support equitable access to culture. We convene events, produce new evidence and support activities that help us deliver on these ambitious goals.

What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for someone with around six years of professional experience in ideally a mixture of strategic communications, public affairs, media engagement, digital and corporate communications. We value colleagues with great collaboration and project management skills.

This is an ideal position for someone looking to grow their portfolio and contribute to exciting and impactful work in the climate, culture and social impact sectors. Experience working in the philanthropic or third sector is desirable. The ability to speak and write Portuguese is not essential, but would be an advantage.

Terms and benefits:

  • One-year fixed term contract (maternity cover).
  • Competitive salary dependent on experience.
  • 28 days of annual leave in addition to UK statutory holidays.
  • Based in our office in Hoxton Square, London, but with flexibility for some home working.
  • This role may require some out of hours work, and there will be opportunities for national and international travel, including to our Head Office in Lisbon.
  • Pension scheme with matched contributions of up to 10% per year (after a successful probation period of two months).
  • Equal opportunity policy, and applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds are encouraged.
  • Other benefits include generous budget for employee training, access to an employee assistance scheme and mental health support, and access to schemes such as cycle to work.

Please read the Job Description for more details about the role and responsibilities as well as the ideal competencies and experiences.

Please note that all candidates must be eligible to work in the UK.
