Translating Culture: Highlights from the Literature in Translation and Multilingualism programme

Author: Sharon Telfer

(November, 2015)

Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation ran its Literature in Translation and Multilingualism programme from 2011 to 2014 with the aim of developing cultural understanding in the UK.

This publication offers a survey of the programme. It provides an overview of what the Foundation funded, our rationale for support and the connections between different projects – in particular how the learning from specific projects led us to support other related pieces of work – and some lessons, identified from the programme as a whole.

In addition, it provides case study descriptions of each funded project highlighting outcomes so far.
