Manchester Mind – Manchester

Manchester Mind ran a programme for older people focused on building resilience, using techniques like relaxation. It helps participants overcome negative thoughts about the different life transitions they are facing, such as retiring and dealing with long-term conditions.

Workers’ Educational Association – Highlands 

The Best Is Yet To Come, run by the Highlands branch of the WEA, works with people in rural locations to think about their next phase of life from work to retirement. 

Age and Opportunity – Ireland 

Changing Gears is a programme run by Irish organisation Age and Opportunity. Its aim is to make the period for those aged 50 plus into one of the most satisfying in people’s lives.

Positive Ageing and Resilience Training – Bristol 

Drawing on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), positive psychology and mindfulness this course has a focus on building resilience, a crucial skill for handling transitions. 

Envisage – Southampton 

This programme seeks to equip participants with the information, networks and opportunities to enter retirement with confidence. 

Beth Johnson Foundation – Stoke 

Local volunteers played an active part in co-designing this project, which supported people in the community to think more positively about their retirement.

Centre for Policy on Ageing – Thanet/Leeds 

Centre for Policy on Ageing use storytelling in its programme, to help participants reflect on their lives and their wishes moving into retirement.
