Our Funding Approach
The UK Branch works with partners in the UK, Portugal and beyond on initiatives that align with the Foundation’s mission to promote the development of individuals and organisations through art, science, education, and charity, for a more equitable and sustainable society.
An interactive funding approach
The Foundation takes an interactive approach to funding. We collaborate closely with partners to develop projects aligned with our strategic goals. Each year we create plans for our multi-year programmes, using a range of funding methods including grants, open calls, prizes, convening, advocacy, and direct action.
We proactively identify potential partners through research, consultation and events. When a project aligns with our priorities, we work together to co-develop the proposal, set outcomes, and define measures of success. Occasionally, we issue open calls for applications, which are published on the Foundation’s website and shared with relevant audiences. We also value collaboration with other trusts, foundations, and stakeholders.
We do not accept unsolicited applications. However, we welcome initial inquiries if an organisation’s work aligns with our goals. Organisations may reach out with an introductory email describing their work and its alignment with our strategy. We ask that organisations refrain from sending full proposals unless invited, and we strive to respond to all inquiries in a reasonable timeframe.
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Equity is a strategic priority for the Foundation. The UK Branch is committed to enhancing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) across our grant-making, and this guides all aspects of our work. Our goal is to ensure our funding decisions are inclusive and reflective of the diverse communities our programmes aim to serve.
Transparency
The Foundation is committed to transparency. All grants disbursed by the UK Branch since 2013 are published on 360Giving. This work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
