Our Annual Review 2021/22 is a testament to the innovation of our partners and their commitment to the social, environmental and cultural causes we champion.

This year’s review provides a snapshot of some of our supported projects, as well as highlights and reflections from our three programmes – Valuing the OceanCitizen Engagement on Climate and The Civic Role of Arts Organisations.

2021 was a year for advancing each of our programme strands, and the interlinks between culture and the environment showed up clearly.

Civic engagement remains a thread running through all our work. In 2021, for example, we commissioned research and piloted models for engaging people on climate action, with the launch of the first Global Citizens’ Assembly and of a multi-year project with Involve on local authorities and citizen engagement. We made progress on strengthening the ocean-climate narrative through cross-sector collaboration and major advocacy and communications campaigns, including #ListenToTheOcean at the G7 Summit.

The civic role of arts organisations movement continued to grow as the sector assumed the critical role it holds in society. Applications for our second Award for Civic Arts Organisations and two flagship projects – Co-Creating Change and Creative Civic Change – reveal how co-creation and shifts in power distribution and representation are becoming more widespread.

Read about more of our work and supported projects in the report as well as the priorities for each of our programmes, as we enter the final year of our current strategy.
