‘The World is Our House’: art, listening and collective creation
Developed in partnership with CooperActiva – a social development cooperative that spearheaded this initiative – the teenagers’ involvement took place through collaborative work with artist Carlos Bunga. Although it originated from an exhibition, the project extended beyond institutional spaces. Each stage was built on the basis of ongoing dialogue.
For fourteen days, the group used the exhibition as a meeting point for sharing and creation, exploring the concept of ‘home’ not only as a physical structure but also as an emotional and communal shelter. Through dialogue, creative activities, and moments of listening, the initiative combined educational practices and artistic expression in a cooperative environment that allowed diverse experiences to emerge.
In this video, participants, mediators, and the artist share different perspectives on the working process. According to Carlos Bunga, the project revealed ‘the importance of being together and leaving room for spontaneity’, allowing connections and ideas to emerge during the project’s development.
Andreia Dias, from CAM’s Education, Mediation, and Participation department, highlights this intersection between art and education as a space open to ‘new possibilities for seeing beyond the visible and beyond what has already been conceived.’
Through the testimonies of the young participants, the video highlights how their extended engagement with the exhibition and the artist redefined the concept of the ‘museum’ – it became a space for reflection, exchange, and identity. Rather than merely discussing the concept of home, the initiative ultimately shaped distinct ways of viewing reality and inhabiting it together.
