Source Climate Chance Coffee, community-led carbon footprint reduction
Source Climate Change Coffee has recently been launched in collaboration with Plan Vivo. The initiative is the result of multidisciplinary expertise being put at the service of community-led collaborative design to produce a product that seeks to improve the living conditions of challenged communities in economic and environmental terms. The project relies on ‘Payment for Ecosystem Services’ (PES) Agreements, a system in which land managers receive compensation for the conservation efforts that they embed in their regular agricultural activities. The agreements highlight shared responsibility for conservation efforts between producers and consumers while, at the same time, providing benefits for all the parties involved in the production/supply chain.
The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (UK Branch), as a part of its Environment strand, which seeks to promote the value of the environment, sustainable lifestyles and the transition towards a greener economy, has supported Plan Vivo’s model for payment for ecosystem services (PES).
