New Economics Foundation (NEF) is the UK’s leading think tank promoting social, economic and environmental justice. Our aim is to transform the economy so that it works for people and the planet.

NEF received £216,000 to develop marine socio-economics and fair and sustainable fisheries, to help drive change towards fairer and more sustainable management of marine resources and strengthen the work of the marine conservation sector through the generation of new evidence and to support the re-framing of conservation issues, and the provision of socio-economic training and tools. The grant supported their Blue New Deal initiative which drives change towards fairer and more sustainable management of marine resources and strengthen the work of the marine conservation sector. The Blue New Deal report highlights how to balance the economic and social needs of coastal communities with those of our marine environment, ensuring their return to prosperity.
