Culture Reset – People Make it Work

In 2020, people make it work established a programme to help managers in the arts develop new skills and strategies to prepare themselves and their organisation for playing a greater civic role post-Covid-19. This grant developed into Culture Reset, a rapid-response programme that provided expert support and dynamic stimulus for 192 arts and cultural producers, makers and directors across the UK over the summer of 2020. This programme also responds to our Inquiry into the civic role of arts phase, which identified a clear need for leadership training but found that many staff lacked the time to investigate how to create change. The Foundation contributed with a £120,000 grant to this programme.

Resources

The Culture Reset webpage hosts a range of resources and commissioned content for participants and for general public use. A resource hub was established for participants giving them access to weekly tasks and commissioned resources, whilst a resources section offered participants and general public access to podcasts (also available on podcast hosting platforms), and recorded content from the first assembly. A blog section features articles by Claire Doherty and David Micklem and from participants during the programme. Provocations came from speakers including John McGrath (Manchester International Festival), Jasmine Wahi (Project for Empty Space, USA), Marcus Faustini (The Agency, Brazil). Ten podcasts were produced featuring a range of contributors.
