Sparknews

Sparknews brings together media stakeholders to provide training and promote solutions-focused environmental journalism. With the Foundation’s support, totalling £65,000, Sparknews has been working with journalists across the globe to understand the challenges in reporting on ocean issues and potential solutions. A 2021 report funded by the UK Branch highlighted common challenges for ocean journalism in various countries – including sourcing the latest information, translating science into engaging stories, and a lack of ocean imagery. This can lead to ocean coverage being deprioritised by media outlets.

At the UN Ocean Conference in 2022, the UK Branch iworked with Sparknews to inform more journalists about these challenges and bring together media, scientists and NGOs to collaborate on solutions.
