Marcus Coates, who in 2008 visited Galapagos on the Gulbenkian Galapagos Artists Residency programme, has won the inaugural Daiwa Foundation Art Prize for his film of Giant Tortoises, Intelligent Design. After his residency Coates commented: ‘I have come away with a lifetime’s worth of ideas and inspiration.’
