EMIF Winter Event 2024

The European Media and Information Fund (EMIF) organised its flagship Winter Conference in Florence, Italy, bringing together leading experts, policymakers, and practitioners to tackle the challenges of disinformation.

Under the theme “Disinformation: Systemic Challenges, Structural Solutions,” the event, that took place in the School of Transnational Governance of the European University Institute, highlighted collaborative approaches to counter false narratives and promote resilience within the European information ecosystem.

In these two days, the conference addressed critical areas including regulatory frameworks such as the DSA, the monetisation of disinformation, EDMO’s media literacy guidelines, and strategies for countering pseudoscience. Invited panelists shared insights on emerging threats and showcased solutions designed to safeguard public discourse. Workshops and interactive sessions provided practical tools to measure disinformation in the platforms but also strategies to strengthen efforts against disinformation and protect journalists and fact-checkers.

In addition to this, the event spotlighted EMIF-funded projects, celebrating their impact and contributions to the field, in a flash-talk competition with 3-minute presentations. Allowing for the decision of all event participants, who were requested to vote in their favorite pitch throughout 4 categories, an award ceremony recognised the groundbreaking initiatives by EMIF grantees.
