Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester

Anika Vavic is frequently to be found on stage being directed by conductors like Valery Gergiev, Paavo Järvi and Hannu Lintu, but it was with the mythical Mstislav Rostropovich that the Serbian pianist learned some of her most important artistic lessons – for example, setting out to create an escape from everyday life in the space of a concert. Vavic openly acknowledges Rostropovich and Elisabeth Leonskaja amongst the major driving forces behind her career. The renowned conductor Zubin Mehta praised her for “her great talent, brilliant technique and smart and passionate playing”.
