Although in a shorter concert, the revelation of the monumentality of J. S. Bach’s St John’s Passion, as well as the communion of its musicality and spirituality, is once again being taken on as a mission by conductor Michel Corboz. A passionate devotee of Bach’s music, Corboz is one of his most devoted and knowledgeable performers. For Corboz, Bach’s music draws all of humanity to itself. Despite having directed St John’s Passion on several occasions, each return to this piece and its careful relationship with the lyrics is always new. An intimate relationship that is renewed and awakens as though for the first time.
