Giuseppe Verdi
Few artistic partnerships have proved as fruitful as that between Shakespeare’s dramatic writing and Verdi’s operatic genius. An admirable and ever-relevant story of ambition, downfall, betrayal, paranoia and obsession with power, Macbeth spares no means in fulfilling the prophecy of his rise to the throne, only to descend into madness through guilt and fear of suffering the same fate. The Met Opera production is conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin and stars baritone Quinn Kelsey as the Scottish king and soprano Lise Davidsen as Lady Macbeth.
