Following the production of Kevin Puts’s opera The Hours, an adaptation of Michael Cunningham’s novel of the same name, the Metropolitan Opera in New York returns to the American composer, this time with a production of his first opera, Silent Night, awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 2012. The Guardian described Silent Night as ‘an overwhelming emotional experience’, inspired by the true story of the Christmas truce on the battlefield in 1914. Conducted by Dalia Stasevska, the production stars Elza van den Heever, Ben Bliss and Rolando Villazón in the leading roles.
