Natura Mirabilis. Arte e Natureza

in portuguese

The Calouste Gulbenkian Museum presents the book Natura Mirabilis. Art and Nature, published by Italian publisher Franco Maria Ricci.

Following a collaboration that began in 2024 with the prestigious publisher Franco Maria Ricci, the Museum received a new proposal for collaboration on an edition dedicated exclusively to the Gulbenkian Collection, this time on the theme of Art and Nature. With this in mind, researcher and writer Susana Neves started with a selection of twelve works from different geographical locations, periods and types to define a unique journey. The Museum’s curators and other collaborators contributed with choices of pieces that equally reflect this relationship between Art and Nature.

This book, which draws on the collection of the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum and its gardens, juxtaposes striking photographs from the collection with landscapes, inviting a fresh look at works from the collection, as well as the outdoor space that frames them. We are thus challenged to reflect on how nature has influenced artistic creation, but also on the impact that art can have on our perception of and relationship with the natural world.
