Calouste Gulbenkian Museum distinguished by APOM
Every year, the Portuguese Association of Museology (APOM) rewards the best exhibition design and cultural diffusion projects in a ceremony that aims to promote the role of museums and cultural institutions within the communities. This year, the ceremony took place in May at the National Coach Museum, in Belém, and was attended by the President of the Republic of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.
The Calouste Gulbenkian Museum received an honourable mention for the project Beyond the Mirror in the ‘Temporary Exhibitions’ category. Taking the mirror as a starting point, this exhibition, which took place between October 2017 and February 2018 in the Main Gallery, intended to show the presence of this mysterious object in European art in different mediums – from painting to sculpture, photography, books and film. The project was designed by Mariano Piçarra and curated by Maria Rosa Figueiredo and Leonor Nazaré.
The curator Maria Rosa Figueiredo was also honoured with the ‘Personality of the Year’ prize, thus celebrating a long career dedicated to museology at the service of the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum.
The exhibition catalogue is still available for purchase at the Foundation shops.
