Joie de vivre

The exhibition showcases a decade of work from 1950 onwards, beginning in Lisbon and drawing to a close in Paris in 1961. It was an intense, formative period, rich in collaborations with other artists and intellectuals, particularly within the context of the MRAR (Religious Art Renovation Movement) and the KWY group and journal. They are years imbued with a profound sense of optimism, as reflected in the painting Joie de vivre (1960). This unprecedented work resulted from a commission involving 13 European artists, who were asked to produce a large-scale, brightly coloured painting along this theme for the Turmac Tobacco factory in Zevenaar (Holland), with the aim of creating a stimulating working environment for its employees.
