The conference aims to open dialogues and formulate new perspectives, approaches, and research methods related to Asian art and archaeology. Its fourth edition features the presence of Partha Mitter, Professor Emeritus at the University of Sussex. His research areas focus on the reception of Indian art in the West, as well as on modernity, art and identity in India, and global modernism.

Partha Mitter’s talk is preceded by four presentations on Calouste Gulbenkian, his collection, and the history of the Museum.

This event is organized by the European Association for Asian Art and Archaeology (EAAA), UNIARQ – Centre for Archaeology (School of Arts and Humanities), Centre for History of the University of Lisbon (CH-ULisboa), ARTIS – Institute of Art History, and the Asia Collections Network (ACN).
