Solomon, a Greece-based independent investigative newsroom, has been awarded €5,350 in emergency support by the European Media and Information Fund (EMIF) under its SAFE initiative.
RightWatch aims to challenge misleading political and media narratives related to migration, climate change, gender equality, LGBTQ+ rights, inequality, and the rights of underrepresented communities. The project is designed to tackle far-right misinformation and disinformation in Italy, Greece, and France through fact-checking and public accountability. Through this work, Solomon seeks to equip journalists, civil society groups, and policymakers with the tools to resist manipulation and defend democratic values.
The grant will help Solomon strengthen its digital and psychological resilience in the face of growing threats. The organisation has faced ongoing harassment and intimidation, both online and offline, in retaliation for its investigative reporting into corruption, migration, and state power. Solomon also holds the distinction of being the first media outlet in Greece confirmed to have been surveilled by the national intelligence agency – a case that drew international concern from press freedom advocates.
The EMIF selection committee recognised the urgency of the risks Solomon faces and acknowledged the credibility of its application. The funding request itself was praised for being well-structured and appropriately targeted, with costs allocated to psychological care for team members and the purchase of digital threat-tracking tools.
This funding marks a meaningful step in supporting independent journalism under pressure and reinforces the role of fact-based reporting in confronting harmful misinformation campaigns across Europe.
