2023 RESULTS: €4,2 MILLION FOR 16 PROJECTS

The projects receiving funding from the European Media and Information Fund (EMIF) will work across 15 European countries.

EMIF’s Management Committee has granted 16 projects a total amount of €4.260.686,25. The granted projects will work across 15 European countries, namely Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

The successful projects responded to the 2023 EMIF Calls for Proposals across three priority areas: Investigations into Disinformation, Research – Studies & Sandboxes, and Media and Information Literacy.

 

CALL “Investigations into Disinformation Dynamics”

The grant amount under this call sums to a total of €1.594.458,23, split by 8 projects – a considerable increase compared to last year’s. The projects will focus on investigating disinformation in Europe, its origins, methods, and dynamics.

CALL “Research for a Transparent and Resilient Information Ecosystem”

The four projects under this Call for Proposals will receive a total of €1.139.718,25.

In the Research area, projects aim to develop open-source software and frameworks, leverage the use of natural language processing, machine learning and text analysis, to understand how disinformation circulates across multiple platforms, the role of AI in generating content and fostering transparent information ecosystem.

CALL “Media and Information Literacy for Societal Resilience”

Within this round of EMIF’s Calls for Proposals, the four media and information literacy projects approved add up to € 1 526 509,77.

Most of these projects intend to improve critical thinking in specific target groups as librarians, judges, policymakers, staff from NGOs, or young adults from Gen Z, when exposed to the media, and adopt different approaches to explore their impact and multiplier effect.
