DigiTile
Library of Portuguese tiles and ceramics
The library on Portuguese tiles and ceramics brings together collections from the Art Library and studies produced from the unpublished documentation left by Santos Simões.
The tile, as an expression of a certain Portuguese artistic tradition and sensibility, has left and will continue to leave multiple traces in Portuguese society over time.
Among this possible multiplicity of features, the DigiTile library mainly presents the special collections on this theme that are part of the Art Library of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, as well as contemporary studies on these collections and, in general, on the themes of Portuguese ceramics and tiles.
The Digitile library aims to be a reference repository in the field of Portuguese ceramics and tiles, publishing sources and studies on these themes.
Initially, it was the result of the DigiTile project (PTDC/EAT-EAT/117315/2010) which aimed to publish sources for the study of tiles belonging to the Art Library of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, namely the Santos Simões collection, and recent studies based on these sources.
It was an initiative of ARTIS Instituto de História da Arte da Faculdade de Letras de Lisboa, which was associated with, among others, the Art Library of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
