Ceramics from Viana do Castelo

This collection is the result of a grant awarded by the Foundation’s Fine Arts Department to Manuel Chaves e Castro, to compile an inventory of ceramics from Viana do Castelo with an oriental influence.

The implementation of the inventory was proposed in 1984 by the Municipality of Viana do Castelo and by the Regional Commission of Tourism of Alto Minho. Manuel Chaves e Castro, from the Regional Commission of Tourism of Alto Minho, was responsible for the work.

Gualberto Boa-Morte Galvão was the photographer for all the pieces, except for those reproducing pieces from the Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis, which were taken by Horácio Rego.

The project and its costs were subsidised by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation until 1986.
