Cultural governance diversity – Clore Leadership
Clore Leadership champions leadership development in the arts, culture and creative sectors in the UK, nurturing both executive and trustee leadership. Between 2024-25, the Foundation supported Clore with a grant of £18,000 to develop Diversifying Governance, a programme to support organisations address diversity challenges at a Board level. The funding supported the programme across different strands:
EDI Benchmarking Toolkit
The EDI (Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) Benchmarking Toolkit allows organisations to self-assess their existing governance and to measure progress for developing a more diverse board. The free, online tool helps organisations to encourage board diversity through enhancing their approach, rather than rating the diversity of a specific board, and provides resources and training opportunities.
The tool helps organisations to identify strengths, performance gaps, opportunities for improvement and goals, and to monitor progress towards these.
Board Diversity Surgeries
Clore facilitated two ‘surgeries’ with 60 attendees themed around board diversity. These events aimed to help organisations take concrete steps towards diversifying their governance. Attendees were subsequently invited to join a peer-learning cohort of Trustees and Chief Executives, who met over five months to discuss and support each other in addressing governance diversity challenges within their organisations.
