Grandparents in Europe: helping with childcare
GrandparentsPlus have released a short documentary on how grandparents support families today across Europe by helping with childcare.
The documentary draws on a pan-European research study supported by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (UK Branch) on the role of grandparents in childcare.
Interviews with three British grandmothers and experts, and key statistics from the July 2013 King’s College London report on the question: Grandparenting in Europe: family policy and grandparents’ role in providing childcare are included in the footage.
The study highlights how shifting work and demographic patterns are increasing pressure on grandparents in their role in childcare provision and calls for more flexible working, leave from work and a greater emphasis on grandparents’ position in childcare policy in general.
