Originally premiered in 1986, the opera that Anthony Davis dedicated to the biography of Malcolm X now arrives at the Met Opera in a new production. Davis (winner of a Pulitzer Prize in 2020 for The Central Park Five) enthusiastically followed the preparation of Robert O’Hara’s new staging, stressing the importance of the political message of one of the most symbolic activists for the rights of the African American population. For the composer: “it is impossible to imagine a movement like Black Lives Matter, for example, without Malcolm X”. The lead roles will be played by Will Liverman and Leah Hawkins.
