Considered the major driving force of contemporary Armenian music, the composer and ethnomusicologist Komitas Vardapet left a remarkable legacy in the meeting between centuries-old popular and religious music traditions and agile and wealthy writing capable of summoning both present and past. His piano pieces, almost fully recorded by the exceptional pianist Lusine Grigoryan, are mostly based on local folklore songs and dances. Grigoryan has revealed herself to be one of the best translators of the Komitas refinement into piano language.
