In the first decade of the 21st century, András Schiff dedicated himself to Beethoven’s piano sonatas and his choice was received with vast and deserved praise. At the time, the New Yorker magazine stated that he was “the greatest interpreter of Beethoven’s piano works following the retirement of Alfred Brendel”. But in addition to these remarkable interpretations, also witnessed in Gulbenkian Música, Schiff punctuated his recitals with equally exciting performances of works by Bach and Schubert, two great composers that the pianist highlights in the current programme, now granting them front stage.
