Restoration of the 19th-century painting and sculpture gallery
After an intervention for the restoration of the panels, the 18th-century painting and sculpture gallery of the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum has reopened to the public. The works displayed in the space are almost the same, although their arrangement has been rethought so as to highlight the most representative paintings of this sector. The Island of Love, by Jean-Honoré Fragonard, now occupies a place of prominence, as does the pastel of Louis Duval de L’Épinoy, by Maurice-Quentin de La Tour. The 18th-century decorative arts gallery will close in December for a similar intervention, followed, in January 2017, by the restoration of the 19th-century painting and sculpture gallery.
