Guardi’s Works of Art in the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza
The group of paintings by Francesco Guardi acquired by Calouste Gulbenkian is on display at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid.
Guardi and Venice in the Collection of the Gulbenkian Museum brings to the Spanish capital, for the first time, the world’s largest collection of Francesco Guardi’s paintings, assembled by Calouste Gulbenkian between 1907 and 1921. This selection is complemented by a drawing by the Venetian master and a painting by his son, Giacomo, both of which are also part of the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum’s collection.
In recent years, the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum and the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza have collaborated on several initiatives. The exhibition in Madrid represents the second phase of their collaboration around the exhibition Splendour in Venice: From Canaletto to Guardi (Lisbon, October 25, 2024 – January 13, 2025).
