Media Against Disinformation is a project focusing on detecting disinformation directed at the European Union. With it, we expect to show how false information shapes European politics and how the spread of fake news affects the perception of EU policy decisions among Poles. We want to reach adult Polish citizens who are aware of the presence of disinformation in the media space, and yet are sometimes victims of it themselves. Therefore, we have decided to create a podcast in which we, together with experts, will show how disinformation affects the European Union, especially the presentation of a false image of EU directives in the media, and often among politicians. In addition to the podcast, we will also implement our trademark “Fake of the Week” format, where we debunk myths circulating in the Polish media space.
Our goal is not only to point out false information, but also to actively encourage citizens to check information on their own. Therefore, as part of the project, we have planned an online seminar “EU-Focused Disinformation: Sources, Tools, and Reasons”, which will explain which tools to use to quickly verify information. What is more, a collection of free toolkits will be posted on the EURACTIV.pl website to make it easier for the users to debunk fake news on their own. We believe that the publication of reliable information by journalists and their fight against lies spread on the internet is the best vaccine against disinformation, but real change will be achieved when citizens themselves learn to check information before spreading it.
