Calls Launch and Bilateral Matchmaking Event

May 2, 2019, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Lisbon

On May 2, the Active Citizens Fund in Portugal launches new calls for Portuguese Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and promotes a bilateral matchmaking event between Portuguese NGOs and organisations from the EEA Grants donor countries.

In the morning, the meeting at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation features Lorenzo Marsili, the guest speaker who will deliver a speech on “The role of NGOs in strengthening democratic culture”, as a member of the board of CIVICUS, a global platform that brings together organisations of civil society and activists from around the world.

Lorenzo Marsili’s conference gives the motto to the new 2019 calls for Portuguese NGOs that seek to fund small projects (up to 18 months) under Outcome 1 of the Programme “strengthened democratic culture and civic awareness”, as well as large projects (up to 30 months) under Outcome 4 “enhanced capacity and sustainability of civil society (organisations and the sector)”.

Among the projects that the Active Citizens Fund in Portugal seeks to support in the 2019 calls, a special emphasis goes to projects that integrate or are based on awareness campaigns and media literacy actions to combat fake news and misinformation, as well as projects dedicated to the monitoring of public policies and advocacy, and also projects of NGOs dedicated to the training and transfer of knowledge and experience among large and small civil society organisations.

Bilateral Matchmaking Event

In the afternoon, bilateral meetings will be held with 10 Norwegian and Icelandic organisations with a view to foster partnerships between Portuguese NGOs and entities from the EEA Grants donor countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway).

These organisations, which work in the areas of human rights advocacy, gender equality, promotion of civic participation and volunteerism, community development and advocacy, will be represented at this meeting to explore potential partnerships with their counterparts in Portugal.

The Active Citizens Fund in Portugal has an open call, until June 2023, to support Bilateral Cooperation Initiatives, with the aim of promoting the exchange of experiences, sharing and transfer of knowledge and good practices of entities of the donor countries to strengthen the capacity and effectiveness of Portuguese NGOs.
