In July 2024, the Armenian Communities Department of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation brought together 36 Armenian intellectuals from 14 countries for a special event in Lisbon. Over three days, Հաւասարում նորոգ | Renewed Equation focussed on the Armenian Diaspora’s rich intellectual heritage while creating space for meaningful conversations between generations.

Inspired by Haroutioun Kurkjian’s influential 1968 essay “Երկրորդ հաւասարում բազմաթիւ անյայտներով”, the gathering was a chance to reflect on the past and look toward the future. Topics like culture, education, and Diasporan policies sparked deep discussions, with the Armenian language at the heart of every exchange.

A standout moment was the spotlight sessions, where younger voices sat down with Diasporan leading thinkers like Haroutioun Kurkjian, Jirair Libaridian, Khachig Tololyan, Krikor Beledian, Marc Nichanian, Silva Kuyumcuyan, and Vehanoush Tekian to discuss their work and ideas.

We are excited to announce that the spotlight sessions from Հաւասարում նորոգ | Renewed Equation are now available to the public! These curated conversations offer a rare glimpse into the key figures’ personal journeys and intellectual contributions shaping the Diaspora’s story and history.

These recordings will be followed by a documentary capturing the spirit of the event and an analytical report that will provide valuable insights into the existing narratives of the Armenian Diaspora.
