Consulting Opportunity in IT/Language Programming

For more than ten years, the Armenian Communities Department of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation has been lending support to and initiating the creation of language-related technological tools to ensure that the Armenian language remains compatible with the advancements in the field.

Being at the forefront of IT-language programming, especially for Western Armenian, the Department has collaborated with various partners in Armenia and the Diaspora over the years, in order to develop and implement important language-related IT projects. Including initiatives such as the creation of online dictionaries, universal Armenian spellcheckers, searchable databases for Armenian Literature and large body of text, websites and tools analysing Armenian grammar, sentence structures, and word formations, Western Armenian Wikipedia, as well as large digitization projects. These resources and tools have been made available to the public openly and free of charge, in line with the Department’s mission to further enhance the use of the Armenian language. 

Given the constant rapid developments in the IT-language field and the fast emergence and continuous evolution of Artificial Intelligence, and as part of the Department’s current five-year plan, the Armenian Communities Department is seeking to hire a consultant to advise it on IT/language-related projects, to evaluate their feasibility, relevance, and importance, and to chart the next steps that need to be taken in the field.

Applications must include a current CV, a description highlighting experience in the field, and a summary of the general direction the applicant feels is to be taken for the Armenian language to remain compatible with IT and to help AI make use of existing content and provide better quality content in Western Armenian.
