Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester
On the first day of a two-week residency, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra displays its eclecticism, with a mixed programme of chamber and symphonic music. In the second part, the Swiss conductor Lorenzo Viotti directs the Symphonic Dances, op. 45, the last work composed by Rachmaninov, then closing the concert with the popular Bolero by Ravel, a delectable orchestral crescendo composed in 1928 for a commission by the Russian ballerina Ida Rubinstein.
