Horácio Ferreira
Clarinet
Horácio Ferreira started playing the clarinet at the age of 8 and has emerged as one of the most talented clarinettists of the new Portuguese generation. He received his diploma from the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo in Porto in the class of António Saiote, studied in Madrid with Enrique Pérez Piquer and Michel Arrignon at the Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia and is currently studying in Paris with Nicolas Baldeyrou. Horácio Ferreira has been generously supported throughout by the Albéniz Foundation, the Carolina Foundation and the Gulbenkian Foundation.
Horácio Ferreira has been a prizewinner of numerous international competitions: in Portugal he was awarded First Prize at “Terras de La Salette” Competition and became the first Portuguese clarinettist to win both juniors and seniors divisions at the 28th edition of the “Radio & Television Competition – Prémio Jovens Músicos”, where he was also awarded with the Maestro Silva Pereira Prize for “Young Musician of the Year 2014”. At the Debussy International Clarinet Competition in Paris he was awarded for the best interpretation of Debussy´s Première Rhapsodie, won an honourable mention at the 67th Prague Spring Competition and recently won First Prize at the J. Pakalnis International Competition in Vilnius, Lithuania.
As a soloist he has played with the Gulbenkian Orchestra, Casa da Música Oporto Symphony Orchestra, XXI Orchestra, Cascais and Oeiras Orchestra, Filarmonia das Beiras Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Musica Humana Orchestra. He has recorded “Submundo” by Sara Claro and has performed in the USA, Canada, Brazil and China as well as throughout Europe. Upcoming projects include several concerts as a soloist with the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, chamber music with the Novus String Quartet and solo recitals as well as a CD recording.
